当地电位和等电位作业均不能满足作业要求时，可采用中间电位作业法进行作业，中间电位作业法是介于两者之间的一种方法。它要求人体既要与带电体保持一定距离，也要和大地（接地体）保持一定距离。此时人体的电位是介于地电位与带 电体的高电位之间的某一个悬浮电位。

中间电位作业法为接地体→绝缘体→人体→绝缘体→带电体，人体通过两部分绝缘体分别与接地体和带电体隔开，由两部分绝缘体限制流经人体的电路，所以只要绝缘操作工具和绝缘平台的绝缘水平满足规定，由绝缘操作工具的绝缘电阻和绝缘平台的绝缘电阻组成的绝缘体即可将泄漏电流限制到微安级水平。同时，两段空气间隙达到规定的作业间隙，由两段空气间隙组成的电容回路也可将通过人体的电容电流限制到微安级水平。中间电位作业就可以安全地进行。由于人体电位高于地电位，体表场强也相对较高，应采取相应的电场防护措施，以防止人体产生不适。
